Kayaking is ranked among New Zealand's most popular water sports and as a result, kayak hire is available in virtually any bay and along most shores of the country. There isn't a stretch of New Zealand's coastline that's not worth exploring and often some of the best views are only visible from the water.

Float My Boat offers kayak hire to everyone, including people who are here on holiday and interested in a little site-seeing, individuals just wanting to try it out or holiday makers looking to use a kayak for an extended length of time. Our kayaks are also available for corporate team building packages and fitness programs.

Our Kayaks

Our kayaks are flat sit-on-top kayaks with no belts or skirts therefore no previous experience on a kayak or any kayaking qualifications are necessary if you are interested in hiring one (eg. you do not need to know how to do an Eskimo roll in case of the kayak capsizing). The type of kayaks which we hire out are not very easy to tip over which allows for easy paddling and they are relatively tough too owing to the fact that they are not made of fibreglass.

A kayak can fit one large adult OR two small adults OR an adult and a child but they are single kayaks (strictly speaking). Each hire includes the use of a PFD (protective floatation device) / Lifejacket and a paddle.

Helpful information is available on this website for people seeking Paddle Technique tips, Water Safety guidelines, preparation Checklists, Indemnity Forms [PDF: 340Kb, 1 page], Links to other related sites and more.

Kiwiyakkers

New Zealand’s diverse landscape offers a variety of beautiful and exciting locations where kayaking is possible.  With volcanic lakes, rivers and more than its fair share of beaches, repeated kayak hire will always hold new and interesting paddles in store.

Float My Boat Kayak Hire and Adventure is located on Auckland’s North Shore and in close proximity to the Shore’s bays, Puhoi River and Lake Pupuke. (see map)

As with any sport, there is a level of risk involved.  Float My Boat reserves the right to  refrain from renting out kayaks in weather that is not ideal for paddling or to paddlers who appear to be inappropriately dressed or equipped for a safe paddling experience.

Float My Boat Kayak Hire and Adventure will hire kayaks out to paddlers who have had experience and those who are curious but we highly recommend that inexperienced paddlers and nervous swimmers go out in the company of a friend at a meandering pace. Browse our links for kayaking courses in your area.

If you are interested in buying your own kayak, why not test it out with us and we can point you in the direction of kayak retailers and local kayaking clubs if you decide you want to invest in this amazingly diverse sport.
